Review: Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop – The Vitamin C Serum for Sensitive Skin?

After my less-than-satisfying experience with C20 Vitamin C Serum, I was once again on the search for a vitamin C serum that was friendly on both the pocket AND on the face. Incidentally, Wishtrend contacted me and asked me if I was interested in trying Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop.

Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop is touted to be suitable even for sensitive skin so I obviously agreed! For the record, although this product is sponsored, it does not affect my opinion nor judgement of it in any way. Please see this page for more details on disclosure.

Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop

Strictly speaking, Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop is not a pure vitamin C serum as it contains a whole list of other beneficial extracts. It’s more like a all-round serum that also happens to contain vitamin C.

All the same, there were a few things I found surprising about this bottle of serum when it arrived. Usually bottles that contain vitamin C are opaque and made of glass, so as to guard against degradation of the vitamin C, but Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop came in a clear, plastic bottle.

I’m not sure if it is due to the low vitamin C content (5%) of the serum or the “Hybird Stabilization Technology” which already stabilizes the vitamin C, thus rendering an opaque glass bottle redundant, but this packaging choice is most unusual indeed.

Next is the texture. I was quite surprised the first time I felt it because it feels more like an oil than a serum.

However, after a few minutes, it is fully absorbed into the skin and doesn’t leave any greasy feeling at all.

I find there is hardly any scent and have to focus and sniff really hard to make out any traces of a scent. This is not a bad thing, as I prefer products I use to be fragrance-free rather than artificial-smelling, or worse, pungent. Ack.

The plastic feel of the bottle (even the silver cap is plastic) does give off a cheap feel, but I like how the bottle looks. It’s a simple yet pretty design, and I adore the silver prism accents. It’s a shame the bottle does not feel more sturdy.

On the day I started using it, I had dry patches on my cheeks, no thanks to the changing seasons. Hello 38% humidity.

Since Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop was formulated for sensitive skin, I had no reservations about applying it even on my dry patches. I used the serum after cleansing and toner, and my usual of 4-5 drops for the entire face.

Apparently the dryness I had that day were on an entirely different level because while the rest of my skin (which usually tends to the dry side) was mostly okay, I felt stinging in the dry patches. It wasn’t burning pain, but uncomfortable enough. The stinging lasted about 10 minutes before it subsided.

I used it religiously every night, but it was still stinging at the end of one week. Which is puzzling because why are the dry patches still there, almost unchanged? Shouldn’t the serum with its long list of healing ingredients alleviated the skin at least some? I had to intervene by using other products to clear up the skin because the serum didn’t seem to be helping and I was tired of having flaky, dry skin that stung me every night I used the serum.

After my skin cleared up, I restarted the use of Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop to see how it would work without bias on my normal skin. Unfortunately, even after using it for a few more weeks, I didn’t see any difference in my skin. It didn’t make it worse, but it didn’t make it better. But at least it didn’t sting this time.

Verdict

This serum sounds like a great alternative for people with sensitive skin, but it sadly did not do anything for my skin. There was no distinguishable difference in my skin whether or not I use it, and in extreme cases (my dry patches), it caused stinging as well.

As indicated on many reviews online, it is a godsend for many people, and I wished it worked for me too :( But regrettably, based on my experience, it’s not a product I can readily recommend.
